Job summary

Rappahannock County Public Schools is seeking a Substitute Car Driver to safely transport students to and from multiple schools. The role reports to the Transportation Supervisor and is non-exempt under the district's FLSA classification.

The substitute driver will assist with loading/unloading for students, including those with special needs, monitor seating for safety, and adhere to health and safety regulations and district policies. Training will be provided as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Tact, patience and courtesy with students, parents and drivers.
• Ability to monitor passengers and ensure safety of seating and seating arrangements.
• Sitting for extended periods and basic hearing and speaking abilities are required.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport students to and from schools.
• Ensure student safety and behavior during transit.
• Assist in loading/unloading for special needs students.
• Monitor seating to keep everyone safe and secure.
• Follow health and safety regulations and district policies.

Job Title: Substitute Car Driver

Reports to: Transportation Supervisor

FLSA: Non-exempt

Summary:

Safely transport students to and from various schools. Student students may have an IEP or other special circumstances. Training will be provided per students special needs and/or circumstances.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the behavior of students being transported
• Assist in loading and unloading special needs students and to monitor their ride to and from school.
• Assist in managing the seating of the student so that everyone is safe and secure
• Basic first aid
• Oral and communication skills
• Health and safety regulations
• Policy and procedures related to student discipline in vehicle

Requirements:

• Tact, patience, and courtesy with students, parents, and drivers
• Sitting for extended periods of time
• Hearing and speaking to exchange information
• Ability to monitor passengers
• Should be in good physical condition to be able to secure and/or strapping a child into a car seat or booster seat, hooking up a child in a safety vest or fastening a seat belt.

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent
