Job summary

The Palmerton Area School District is seeking substitute cafeteria workers for the 2024-2025 school year. Hourly rate is $13/hour. To perform this job you will assist with food preparation, serving meals, and cleaning kitchen areas in school cafeterias.

Prior food service experience is helpful but not required. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, be able to stand for long periods, lift up to 60 pounds, and follow safety procedures.

Job description

The Palmerton Area School District is seeking substitute cafeteria workers for the 2024-2025 school year. Hourly rate is $13/hour.

Position Summary

To perform the routine duties involved in the preparation and serving of food and in the cleaning of kitchen equipment and facilities

Qualifications
Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered
Skills/Knowledge
  • Knowledge of food preparation
  • Working knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures
  • Ability to follow food sanitation procedures
  • Ability to learn prescribed food preparation methods and school cafeteria operations
  • Ability to retrieve necessary menu items and recipe ingredients
  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task
  • Ability to follow a set schedule
  • Ability to be flexible while demonstrating patience and professional demeanor
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, visitors, and administrators
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relations with building staff
  • Ability to work with other employees in the performance of tasks
  • Possess or willingness to learn basic computer skills and utilize such skills
Physical
  • Ability to perform work requiring sustained moderate physical effort

  • Replenish and fill condiment containers
  • Bake cookies and special desserts as needed
