Job summary

Salem-Keizer Public Schools is seeking a substitute school bus driver to improve student achievement by transporting students to and from school and school-related activities. This position requires a valid Oregon Commercial Learner Permit and a Commercial Driver License.

The job offers a wage of $24.03 per hour with paid training provided. Successful candidates will have an acceptable driving record and the ability to assist in covering routes as needed.

Job description

PURPOSE

To improve student achievement by transporting students to and from school and school-related activities. Substitute drivers work when needed for route or activity trip coverage on an unscheduled basis. Successful work as a substitute driver will position the employee to apply for regular bus driver positions as they become available.

Most routes report around 6:00 and return around 9:30 AM, then report around 1:30 PM and return around 5:00 PM. Days worked and number of hours per day may vary depending on coverage assignment.

WAGE

Substitute Driving Wage: $24.03 per hour.

REQUIREMENTS

• No experience required; paid training will be provided.
• Position requires an acceptable driving record and successful passage of a DOT physical exam and both pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
• Applicants must have a valid Oregon Commercial Learner Permit (CLP) and Commercial Driver License (CDL).
• If you hold an out-of-state driver’s license or have held a driver’s license from another state within the last three years, please obtain a court‑certified copy of your driving record from the DMV in which your license was issued.
• Assistance completing the application and uploading documents is provided if needed.
