Substitute Bus Driver (Part‑time)
Starting Date: Immediately
Pay & Schedule
Pay Rate: $20.06 – $22.93 per hour (Grade 112)
Schedule: Part‑time, flexible schedule.
Responsibilities
- Drive the bus on regular routes and special assignments.
- Check the bus daily to ensure all systems are functioning.
- Maintain discipline on the bus at all times.
- Report any defects or non‑operational findings of district vehicles to the supervisor.
- Adhere to all safety rules, regulations, district policies, and state laws pertaining to school bus operation.
- Move, stock, lift, and stack materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Assist in the district warehouse physical inventory.
- Help maintain cleanliness of district sites.
- Assist with child nutrition functions.
- Maintain regular attendance and keep the bus clean.
- Conduct safety checks of equipment.
- Perform bus evacuations as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise students while they are being transported.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Must possess or obtain first aid and CPR certification.
- Must pass a physical agility test and be able to lift/move up to 125 pounds.
- Must pass a drug test.
- Must have a clean driving record.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Language Skills
- Read and interpret written information related to the job.
- Write basic reports and general correspondence.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, and the general public.
Skills and Abilities
- Skill in operating a school bus.
- Knowledge of rules and established procedures in school bus operation.
- Ability to read directions and write reports.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- A valid Arizona Class B (CDL) driver's license with passenger endorsement required.
- A school bus driver certificate issued by the Department of Public Safety required.
- Must meet all qualifications in Article IV of the "Regulations for School Bus Operations" issued by the Arizona Highway Department.
- One (1) year bus‑driving experience preferred.
- Maricopa County Food Handler's permit encouraged.
Reasoning Ability
- Solve practical problems and handle situations with limited standardization.
- Interpret a variety of written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions.
Physical Demands
The job requires frequent stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, pulling, pushing, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Must lift or move up to 50 pounds of materials and meet various visual demands including close vision to read handwritten or typed material.
Work Environment
Moderate to loud noise level. Duties performed indoors and outdoors.
