Job Description: Substitute School Bus Driver

The Arkansas Department of Education is hiring a Substitute School Bus Driver for the Ozark School District, Ozark, AR 72949. The role involves ensuring the safe transportation of students and maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities:
  1. Operate a school bus by assessing traffic and road conditions, monitoring student behavior, and adhering to state laws and district policies. Drivers will be evaluated annually on driving and student management skills.
  2. Make stops at authorized locations, transporting only authorized students.
  3. Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, report defects and maintenance needs, and maintain safety equipment. Annual evaluations will be conducted on inspection skills.
  4. Communicate any vehicle defects to the director or mechanics.
  5. Conduct bus evacuations as needed and report stop arm violations to the Transportation Director.
  6. Ensure the safety of students entering and exiting the bus, stopping traffic as per law.
  7. Monitor student behavior, document incidents of misconduct, and report to the Transportation Director.
  8. Maintain a clean and sanitary bus environment by sweeping and sanitizing daily.
  9. Attend in-service meetings, complete certification training, driver's license testing, and special education training as required.
  10. Record keeping activities such as pre-trip inspection forms, route surveys, and route maps if applicable.
