Job description

Ball State University is seeking applicants for the position of Substitute Bus Driver. This role involves operating university buses to transport students, faculty, staff, and personnel on scheduled shuttle routes and other dispatched runs.

Position Details

• Position Number: 103560-1
• Hourly Rate: $20.14
• FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
• Hours/Week: As Assigned

Responsibilities

1. Operate university buses safely and efficiently.
2. Inspect buses and report malfunctions.
3. Maintain cleanliness of vehicles.
4. Fuel buses and check for exterior damage.
5. Maintain contact with the Transportation Office.
6. Record mileage and passenger data accurately.
7. Assist and direct disabled individuals onto and off vehicles.
8. Report route issues and suggest improvements.
9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least six months of verified professional driving experience.
• Valid Indiana CDL with public passenger endorsement.
• Good driving record.
• Ability to pass a post-offer drug and alcohol test.
• Ability to perform physical and mental requirements of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

• Over-the-road (OTR) bus or truck driving experience.

Additional Information

Applicants must have current authorization to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship. The position requires physical ability to sit for extended periods, operate various vehicle sizes, assist passengers, and exert force as needed. Environmental conditions may include extreme temperatures, noise, and vibrations.
