  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board and/or Superintendent may find appropriate.

REPORTS TO: Building principal

JOB GOAL: To work with supervisors, staff, students, and parents to facilitate successful learning experiences for children in the school.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and supervised by certified staff.
  • Assists the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Monitors work, corrects papers, and supervises curriculum-based testing and makeup work as assigned by the certified staff.
  • Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned by the certified staff.
  • Alerts the certified staff to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community.
  • Participates in in-service training programs as approved.
  • Maintains safe working environment and encourages colleagues to be safety minded in the performance of all school-related duties.
  • Performs other such duties / assignments as directed by the certified staff.
  • Assists as directed by certified staff in the effort to successfully maintain students with special needs in an integrated setting, as determined by the IEP Team.
  • Effectively collects and maintains evidence of yearly professional development hours.
  • Works well as a team member to serve all constituencies.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality as required by law.
  • Commits to life‑long learning and growth.
  • Follows schedule developed by building principal and classroom teacher to meet assigned obligations.
  • Individually assists the student’s personal and/or academic needs as assigned.
  • Assists students with personal care as needed.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As needed/called by the district.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 25 lbs. as necessary for the safety and well‑being of others. The job also requires the ability to read handwritten or typed materials and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
