Dwight-Englewood School in Englewood, NJ is seeking an on-call Substitute ACE Group Facilitator to support afterschool care. You will supervise cohorts, uphold ACE safety procedures, assist instructors, manage transitions, and ensure a safe, engaging environment after school.

The role requires a high school diploma, experience with elementary/preschool children, and ability to work with Preschool through Grade 5. Hours 2:30–6:30 pm; pay $20/hour; per diem as needed.

Status: On-Call / Per Diem / As Needed (Preschool - Grade 5)

The Substitute ACE Group Facilitator plays a vital role in maintaining continuous, safe, and high-quality afterschool care when regular staff are absent. Working on an as-needed basis, the Substitute Facilitator supervises assigned student cohorts, upholds established classroom norms, assists specialty instructors, and executes seamless dismissal routines. The ideal candidate adapts quickly to dynamic environments, models positive behavior, and ensures students feel safe, respected, and engaged throughout the afternoon.

Key Responsibilities & Core Duties
1. Supervision, Safety & Student Care

Maintain visual and auditory supervision of students at all times across all campus spaces (classrooms, dining hall, playgrounds, gym, and hallways).

Enforce established ACE safety procedures, behavior norms, and emergency protocols in accordance with Dwight-Englewood policies.

Respond attentively to students’ personal, emotional, and physical needs. Administer basic first aid for minor incidents according to school health policies and immediately report injuries or safety concerns to the Programs Coordinator.

Assist specialty enrichment instructors with classroom management, activity transition, and instructional reinforcement as needed.

Maintain exact headcount accounting for all assigned students.

Execute strict sign-in/sign-out procedures using SchoolPass. Ensure students are released only to authorized parents, guardians, or approved dismissal lines (e.g., late bus or music lessons).

3. Operational Adaptability & Classroom Support

Step in smoothly to lead or support pre-planned recreational activities, games, snack time, and homework supervision.

Assist with setting up activity spaces, distributing snacks, organizing materials, and ensuring rooms/playgrounds are clean and reset at the end of the shift.

Qualifications & Competencies

Education & Experience: High School diploma required; coursework or degree in Education, Child Development, or related fields preferred. Prior experience working with elementary or preschool-aged children in camp, school, or childcare settings.

Ability to step into different grade-level cohorts (Preschool through Grade 5)

Strong interpersonal skills; ability to give clear, age-appropriate instructions to children and professional updates to administrative staff.

Prompt arrival for scheduled sub coverage

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

Ability to continuously observe and hear children across large physical spaces (gymnasiums, outdoor turf fields, playgrounds).

Ability to move quickly across campus to respond to safety or behavioral needs; comfortable sitting on the floor, standing for extended periods, and participating in light physical recreation with students.

Ability to lift and carry program supplies or equipment weighing up to 30 lbs.

Willingness to work outdoors in various seasonal weather conditions during scheduled outdoor play or field events.

Terms of Employment

Hours are 2:30 to 6:30 pm

Salary is $20/hr
