Job summary

CenterPoint Energy in Houston is seeking an Electrical Engineer to specify, design, and modify power system protection schemes and assist in commissioning substations to maintain ERCOT grid integrity.

You will evaluate NERC standards, serve as SME on internal and external groups, and coordinate with power producers, contractors, and engineering firms.

Requires a BS in Electrical Engineering and at least two years of electric utility experience; strong analytical and field support skills preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college.
• Minimum two years electric utility or power engineering experience.
• Experience with protective relaying and interconnection with ERCOT.
• Knowledge of NERC standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop protection schemes and specify relays for primary and secondary relaying systems.
• Calculate, program and deploy protective relay settings with coordination studies.
• Analyze fault events and prepare sequence of events reports.
• Collaborate with independent power producers, engineering firms and contractors.
• Support commissioning of new equipment within the ERCOT grid.
• Provide field support for equipment operations.
