Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Substation Protection & Controls Engineer to design protection and control projects for electric utilities, spanning 12kV to 500kV. You’ll work on digital logic, AC/DC circuits, and interface with renewable energy and the electric system.

The role is hybrid with 1–4 days in office from Framingham, MA, and travel to project or client sites as needed. Strong CAD and design skills, plus team leadership, are valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 4+ years of substation protection/control design and/or field testing/commissioning experience.
  • Experience executing substation protection and control projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal team and clients.
  • Ability to read and design substation protection and control drawings including one-line, three-line, AC/DC schematic, and wiring designs.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Collaborator and leader who can work effectively in a team environment.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal direction.
  • Strong analytical skills and proven problem-solving ability in team and independent settings.
  • High level of computer competency.
  • Willingness to travel to project or client sites.

Overview

Leidos is seeking a Substation Protection & Controls Engineer to design protection and control projects for electric utilities, ranging from 12kV to 500kV. Candidates will work on digital logic design, AC and DC circuits, substation electrical projects, and interface with renewable energy generation and the electric system.

Work Schedule

Hybrid Schedule: Live in the Framingham, MA office client‑servicing territory (MA, CT, NH, RI). 1‑4 days in office per week with remote work on the remaining days.

What Sets You Apart
  • Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineering in Training (EIT) certification
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience performing quality control checks on substation protection and control design projects
  • Experience working on CAD tools
  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Field testing/commissioning experience
