We are seeking an experienced engineering professional to lead the design and delivery of high-voltage substation projects supporting critical power infrastructure. In this role, you will oversee projects from initial planning through procurement, engineering, construction coordination, and final delivery. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients across the utility, renewable energy, data center, and industrial sectors. Combining technical expertise with strong project leadership, you will ensure that project milestones, budgets, safety requirements, and quality standards are consistently met. You will also guide engineering teams, manage project risks, and drive continuous improvements in delivery processes. This remote opportunity offers the chance to contribute to complex power delivery projects that support evolving energy and infrastructure needs across the United States

Accountabilities
  • Lead the planning, engineering, design, procurement, and delivery of substation and switchyard projects from initiation through completion.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing, resources, and deliverables to meet client expectations and contractual requirements.
  • Supervise, mentor, and coordinate engineers, designers, drafters, contractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Oversee substation physical layouts, protective relaying equipment, and protection and control schemes for transmission and distribution substations.
  • Review and approve engineering documentation, site drawings, CADD deliverables, technical studies, and design packages to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Serve as the primary client contact, providing technical guidance, progress updates, and timely resolution of project issues.
  • Prepare and review scopes of work, technical specifications, procurement documentation, and related engineering deliverables.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, including scope changes, schedule delays, resource constraints, and potential cost overruns.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, engineering codes, industry standards, client specifications, and internal quality procedures.
  • Coordinate with construction teams on site assessments, material testing, quality control, commissioning, and other project execution activities.
  • Monitor project performance and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness.
  • Manage project close-out activities, including final reports, as-built drawings, and other required documentation.
  • Travel to project sites and client meetings as needed, including occasional extended site stays, with travel expected to be up to 20%.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in substation design, engineering, and project management, particularly for high-voltage substations ranging from 69 kV to 500 kV.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain one within the required timeframe.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating contractors, vendors, designers, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong technical knowledge of substation design, including physical layouts, protective relaying, and protection and control systems.
  • Familiarity with applicable industry standards and codes, including RUS, ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NESC, and NERC requirements relevant to power delivery and substation engineering.
  • Proven ability to develop scopes of work, technical specifications, and procurement packages for substation projects.
  • Experience with construction management activities, including site assessments, material testing, quality assurance, and electrical substation commissioning.
  • Strong project management skills, including schedule and budget control, resource planning, risk mitigation, and change-order management.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client relationship skills, with the ability to explain technical issues and resolve challenges effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and documentation standards.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining effective collaboration with distributed teams.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% for site visits, client meetings, and project coordination, with flexibility for occasional extended travel.
