Mesa Associates, Inc. is seeking a mid-level Substation Physical Engineer to join our Power Delivery Substation group near Pensacola, FL.

You will design, review, and coordinate equipment foundations, grounding, and cable routing for medium- to large-scale transmission projects across the U.S. Ideal candidates have ABET-accredited BS in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering, 3+ years of substation physical design, and proficiency with AutoCAD and Bentley MicroStation.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering.
• 3+ years of transmission substation physical design in the electric utility industry (12kV–230kV).
• Location within commuting distance of Pensacola, FL.
• FE Certification preferred; pursue PE licensure encouraged.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Bentley MicroStation; bluebeam for markups.

Responsibilities

• Work on a team of drafters, designers, and engineers.
• Create and review equipment, structural, foundation, grounding, and cable routing plans for medium- to large-scale projects.
• Perform and review lightning and grounding studies; develop BOMs and conductor sizing calculations.
• Coordinate with Protection & Controls, Civil, Studies, and other engineering disciplines to keep designs aligned.
• Examine drawings, specifications, and calculations to locate inconsistencies; propose corrective actions with documentation.
• Identify bottlenecks, develop internal time-saving tools, and contribute to Mesa’s knowledge base.
• Ensure all deliverables meet code, client requirements, and Mesa QA procedures.
