Job summary

ACS Professional Staffing supports a leading employee-owned engineering consultancy in finding a Substation Lead Structural Engineer to perform design, analysis, and evaluations for utility substations. You will develop plans, specifications, and calculations while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and clients.

The ideal candidate holds a Civil/Structural ABET-accredited degree, a PE license, and 5+ years substation experience, with SE preferred.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited civil or structural engineering degree.
• PE license required.
• 5 years direct substation experience.
• SE license preferred.
• 7 years structural engineering experience preferred.
• Experience with electrical utility substation layout and design preferred.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as MathCAD, STAAD, foundation design programs, or equivalent modeling tools.

Responsibilities

• Apply standard structural engineering principles to complete engineering assignments.
• Develop engineering plans, specifications, calculations, and observation reports that meet quality and industry standards.
• Perform detailed structural design and evaluations for utility substation projects, including steel structures and foundation systems.
• Review and verify design calculations, drawings, and engineering work completed by others.
• Investigate and resolve design challenges through analysis, field observations, and innovative engineering solutions.
• Coordinate design activities and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Recommend design improvements to enhance quality, efficiency, and constructability.
• Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and client correspondence.
• Interact with clients to understand project requirements and provide engineering support.
• Support project pursuits through business development, marketing, and technical proposal activities as needed.
• Work closely with engineering technicians and other engineers to ensure successful project delivery.

Overview

Our client, a leading employee-owned engineering consulting firm specializing in power, renewable energy, transportation, and water infrastructure, is seeking a Substation Lead Structural Engineer to perform structural design, analysis, and evaluations for utility substation projects. This role will develop plans, specifications, and calculations, review engineering work, resolve complex design challenges, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients. Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, an active Structural Engineer (SE) license, and experience with substation design, structural steel and foundation systems, applicable design codes, and structural analysis software.

This remote, full-time position is open to qualified candidates throughout the United States.

Pay range: $130,000 - $164,500 DOE

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent).


• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.


• 5 years of direct substation experience required.


• Professional Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.


• 7 years of structural engineering experience preferred.


• Experience with electrical utility substation layout and design preferred.


• Strong knowledge of structural steel design, drilled pier design, spread footing design, and detailing.


• Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as MathCAD, STAAD, foundation design programs, or equivalent modeling tools.


• Knowledge of AISC and ACI design standards required; familiarity with ASCE and NESC standards preferred.


• Basic proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation preferred.


• Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.


• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.


• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in both office and field environments.


• Authorization to work permanently in the United States required.
