Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer for direct placement. The role is remote with travel 20-25% to project sites, typically 1–3 days on-site.

You will perform preliminary and detailed structural design for substations and energy infrastructure, develop calculations, and produce drawings and documentation. You will coordinate with civil, electrical, and project teams, review drawings, ensure QA/QC, and support field data collection and construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Experience in civil engineering design for infrastructure projects (utility/power/substation).
• Experience developing and reviewing drawings, layouts, calculations, and design packages.
• Ability to communicate design requirements to CAD/design personnel.
• Experience coordinating civil design with other engineering disciplines.
• Understanding of grading, drainage, site development, foundations, and general civil/site design principles.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and/or comparable software.
• Proficiency with Bluebeam or similar engineering review/collaboration tools.
• Strong QA/QC and construction documentation knowledge.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Direct placement with a leading North American infrastructure engineering and construction company that builds, installs, maintains, and upgrades critical systems across energy, utilities, communications, and heavy civil markets

This position sits remote with minor travel throughout the year up to 20-25%. Travel will be for 1-3 days onsite at the project.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform preliminary and detailed structural engineering design for substation, utility, and power infrastructure projects.
• Perform structural analysis and engineering calculations to ensure safe and reliable performance.
• Design and evaluate equipment support structures, foundations, steel structures, concrete structures, and other project-specific structural components.
• Develop design criteria, engineering specifications, calculations, drawings, and technical documentation.
• Prepare engineering layouts and markups and provide technical direction to CAD/design technicians.
• Review structural drawings and engineering packages for quality, accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
• Coordinate structural requirements with civil, electrical, P&C, construction, and project management teams.
• Evaluate existing structures and field conditions to support modifications and new installations.
• Support site visits, field measurements, and collection of data required to complete structural designs.
• Provide engineering support during construction and assist in resolving structural design or field issues.
• Support project estimating, scheduling, and planning activities.
• Assist with technical evaluations of equipment, materials, and contractor/vendor information as required.
• Ensure engineering work complies with applicable company QA/QC, safety, design, and document-control requirements.
• Apply applicable structural engineering codes, standards, and project specifications.
• Maintain complete and accurate engineering records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle and engineering deliverables while maintaining project schedules and quality expectations

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Professional experience in civil engineering design, preferably supporting utility, power, substation, energy, or other infrastructure projects.
• Experience developing and reviewing engineering drawings, layouts, calculations, and design packages.
• Ability to develop engineering markups and effectively communicate design requirements to CAD/design personnel.
• Experience coordinating civil design with other engineering disciplines.
• Understanding of grading, drainage, site development, foundations, and general civil/site design principles.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and/or comparable engineering design software.
