Job summary

Nexus Engineering Group invites a Substation Engineering Intern to join the summer program in a collaborative environment. You will work with experienced engineers and designers on projects delivering reliable electrical power to utilities, industrial facilities, and critical infrastructure clients.

You’ll gain hands-on exposure to engineering, design, and construction of substations, with mentoring and real-world project experience across electrical design, protection, and physical layouts.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
• Strong interest in power systems, electrical infrastructure, and substation engineering.
• Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles and power distribution concepts.
• Experience with AutoCAD or other drafting software preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers with the development and review of substation engineering deliverables, including drawings, calculations, reports, and technical documentation.
• Support electrical design activities related to transmission and distribution substations.
• Help create and revise one-line diagrams, wiring schematics, equipment layouts, conduit plans, grounding drawings, and construction packages.
• Perform engineering calculations under the guidance of experienced engineers.
• Participate in site visits, field investigations, and construction support activities when project opportunities allow.
• Learn and apply engineering standards, codes, and industry best practices.
