Job summary

Bowman Consulting Group, Ltd. in Raleigh, NC is seeking an entry-level Substation Electrical Engineer to join our team.

You will perform and support the design, engineering, and technical evaluation of substations and related systems under the guidance of senior engineers, ensuring compliance with IEEE, ANSI, and NESC standards. As part of a collaborative team, you will assist with scopes of work, engineering estimates, schedules, and design reviews while maintaining high safety and quality

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Entry level position; any experience in substation engineering a plus.
• EIT preferred; progression toward PE licensure encouraged.
• Working knowledge of substation equipment (breakers, transformers, relays, structures, grounding).
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation engineering tasks under senior engineers and project leads.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to support design coordination.
• Participate in design reviews, hazard analyses, and constructability reviews.
• Prepare substation design deliverables (one-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, arrangements).
• Perform engineering calculations (loading, grounding, clearances) with senior review.
• Support field activities during construction, testing, and commissioning.
