Job summary

MasTec Power Delivery in the United States is seeking a Substation Engineer to lead design and engineering of high voltage substation projects. You will guide a multidisciplinary team, coordinate with clients and vendors, and ensure schedules, budgets, and quality targets are met.

Responsibilities include developing one-line diagrams, protection coordination, transformer sizing, and applying NEC/NESC/NEMA/IEEE/ANSI standards while managing multiple projects and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution, with a preference for power systems.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in high voltage (230kV and above) electrical substation engineering and design.

Responsibilities

• Project Oversight: Direct and manage projects to meet quality, schedule, and budget goals.
• Design Execution: Develop design documents including one-line diagrams and electrical plans; perform ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, load flow, and short-circuit analyses.
• Coordination and Communication: Liaise with customers, project teams, and management to ensure smooth project execution and timely communication.
• Standards Compliance: Ensure engineering work complies with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
• Problem Solving: Identify potential issues and provide solutions; travel as required for project needs.
• Travel: Undertake short-term travel as required by project assignments.

The Substation Engineer leads the engineering and design of high voltage electrical substation projects, guiding a multidisciplinary team that includes drafters, designers, and engineers. This role involves managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they meet quality, schedule, and budget objectives. As the primary point of contact, you will liaise with clients and vendors throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Design Execution: Develop and update design documents, including one-line diagrams, electrical plans, and specifications. Use engineering software for tasks such as ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, load flow, and short circuit analysis.
• Coordination and Communication: Collaborate with customers, project teams, and management to ensure smooth project execution. Prepare and manage project schedules and budgets, addressing any deviations promptly.
• Standards Compliance: Ensure all engineering work complies with relevant standards (NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI) and utilize the document management system effectively.
• Problem Solving: Identify potential project issues and provide solutions. Travel as required for project needs and perform additional duties as assigned.
• Travel: Undertake short-term travel as required by project assignments.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution, with a preference for a focus on power systems.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in high voltage (230kV and above) electrical substation engineering and design.

Skills

• Technical Expertise: Advanced understanding of high voltage electrical substation components, AC/DC fundamentals, and three-phase power systems. Proficiency in engineering software for design and analysis tasks.
• Design Skills: Ability to produce and interpret design documents and drawings necessary for project execution.
• Leadership and Communication: Proven ability to supervise a technical team and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Software Proficiency: Competent in word processing, spreadsheet, and email applications.
• GIS: Familiarity with GIS is a plus.
