Job summary

MPI is seeking a Substation Engineer to work on high-voltage projects up to 500 kV. You will perform protection and control engineering, develop drawings and calculations, and coordinate with multi-discipline teams.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years of substation experience, strong client communication, and proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation. Hybrid work arrangements are available, with occasional travel.

Job Description

Perform physical and/or protection and control engineering for high-voltage substation projects. Support substation projects ranging from 69 kV through 500 kV. Develop and review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation. Prepare or review: general arrangements and equipment layouts, one-line and three-line diagrams, grounding, lightning protection, and conduit plans, control schematics and wiring diagrams, relay, metering, and communications diagrams, bills of material and equipment specifications. Perform calculations related to grounding, bus design, equipment sizing, AC/DC auxiliary systems, and station service. Coordinate with civil, structural, transmission, distribution, and protection engineering teams. Review vendor drawings and technical submittals for transformers, breakers, switches, control buildings, and other major equipment. Participate in site visits, field investigations, constructability reviews, and construction support. Assist with project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, proposals, and resource planning. Ensure designs comply with IEEE, NESC, NEC, utility requirements, and client-specific standards. Communicate directly with clients and project stakeholders to resolve technical issues and maintain project progress. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Substation Engineer should have: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. At least five years of experience in substation or power-delivery engineering. Demonstrated experience supporting high-voltage utility substation projects. Strong knowledge of substation equipment, design practices, and applicable industry standards. Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation. Strong written, verbal, and client-facing communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate across engineering disciplines. Willingness to travel occasionally for client meetings and project-site visits.
