Job summary

NV5, Inc. is actively seeking a Substation Engineer (Physical/ P&C) in New York City to join our Substation Engineering team. You will work hands-on on physical and protection & control projects within small multi-disciplinary teams, delivering high-quality designs and client-ready documents.

We require 3+ years in Substation/Power Delivery, HV design experience (12kV–500kV), and the ability to interpret IEEE/IEC/NESC standards. A PE license is preferred or can be obtained within 12 months.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in the Substation/Power Delivery field.
  • Experience with high voltage substation design (12kV through 500kV) activities and BOMs.
  • Ability to interpret and apply IEEE, IEC, NESC, and client standards.
  • PE license is a must or ability to obtain within 12 months of start date.
  • Protection and Controls design knowledge is required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare conceptual designs and execution plans.
  • Engineering/project cost estimates and schedules.
  • Perform and document quality reviews for other engineers and designers.
  • Prepare construction drawings, calculations, and studies for HV substation projects.
  • Responsible for technical delivery of power delivery projects or tasks.
  • Prepare calculations, studies, and reports for substation and power systems.
  • Apply engineering design principles and formulas.
  • Work with multi-discipline project teams to execute substation projects.
  • Provide weekly updates on milestone progress and completion dates.

Substation Engineer - (Physical/P&C)

We have an opportunity for a talented & ambitious electrical engineer to join us as our new Substation Engineer.

As our Substation Engineer, you will hands on with the technical support on both physical and protection & control (P&C) projects and will work closely with NV5 Substation Engineering leadership to ensure project success. You will be working in small project teams to provide exceptional customer service and quality in deliverables to our clients.

Responsibilities

Other responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepare conceptual designs and execution plans
  • Engineering/project cost estimates and schedules
  • Perform and document quality reviews for other engineers and designers.
  • Prepare construction drawings, documents, calculations, and studies for medium and high voltage substation projects.
  • Responsible for technical delivery of power delivery engineering projects or tasks.
  • Prepare calculations, studies, and reports for substation and power systems projects meeting internal and client standards and requirements.
  • Apply engineering design principles and practices including formulas.
  • Work and coordinate with small multi-discipline (Civil, Structural, Physical, P&C, Transmission Line) project teams to execute substation projects.
  • Responsible for providing weekly updates to Sr. team leaders on milestone progress, estimated completion dates including percent completion of activities and supporting information to monitor project progress.
Qualifications

We are seeking the following qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in the Substation/Power Delivery field.
  • Experience with high voltage substation design (12kV through 500kV) activities such as preparing one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, panel layouts, AC/DC schematics and wiring diagrams, physical layouts, electrical elevations, plans (equipment, grounding, and raceway), and bills of materials including selection of non-standard equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply standards including IEEE, IEC, NESC, and client standards.
  • PE license is a must or ability to obtain one within 12 months of start date.
  • Experience with power system calculations (AC station service, DC battery sizing, and Voltage Drop/Cable Selection) is a plus.
  • Experience with relay settings is a plus.
  • Knowledge of substation physical equipment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Protection and Controls design is a must.
  • B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

Compensation: $85,000.00 to $97,000.00 per year

The pay range for this position in New York City is $85,000–$97,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
