Job description

Overview

Location: Georgia (field-based; limited travel to FL possible)

Travel: Up to 80% field work | 1–2 days at a time

Interview Process: In-person preferred with Team Members

Why This Role Exists

This position is open due to new government compliance requirements (NERC). The team is responsible for bulk electric system documentation and assessments that determine and validate electrical flow limits across substations — ensuring compliance between design, documentation, and actual field conditions.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform physical and structural design support for electrical power substations
  • Conduct on-site field assessments to verify substation equipment and construction accuracy
  • Review, modify, and update existing 2D AutoCAD drawings (breakers, substation equipment, layouts)
  • Document discrepancies between engineering drawings and actual field installations
  • Complete high-volume data entry related to electrical documentation and compliance tracking
  • Use Excel extensively for documentation, tracking, and reporting
  • Support compliance with NERC requirements related to bulk electric system documentation
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, construction, and compliance teams
  • Senior levels may mentor junior engineers and participate in design reviews
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (required)
  • Utility / Substation background strongly preferred
  • OR prior experience as a Construction Engineer or Field Engineer in the Power Industry
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Ability to pass NERC CIP screening
Required Technical Skills
  • 2D AutoCAD drafting (modifying existing drawings, not greenfield design-heavy)
  • Experience reconciling engineering documentation vs. field-built conditions
  • Comfortable working in active substation environments
Experience Levels
  • Engineer VI: 10+ years
  • 80% field-based across Georgia (occasional Florida travel)
  • Short-duration travel (typically 1–2 days max)
  • Balance of field verification and office-based documentation updates

Strong preference for candidates with 10+ years of utility/substation or power industry field experience

Preferred (Not Required)
  • EIT certification
  • Prior NERC-regulated environment experience
