Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp. is seeking a Substation Design Oversight Engineer to lead design activities for external engineering partners. The role involves guiding substation projects from design through construction, ensuring safety, accuracy, and on-time delivery.

You will provide technical support to Substation/Transmission teams and collaborate with Real Estate, Project Management, and Construction crews to meet budget and in-service dates. On-site roles in Akron, OH or Greensburg, PA are required.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred or equivalent advanced degree/abbrev.
• Minimum of two years engineering experience; FE certificate is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee multiple substation design projects across external design firms.
• Develop engineering designs and work scopes for substation projects (steel structures, foundations, grounding, diagrams).
• Conduct design reviews including QA/QC checklists, one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams; document issues.
• Ensure safety, regulatory compliance and budget adherence across projects.
• Coordinate with FE, external firms, and internal teams to meet schedules and deliverables.
• Present project status and risks to stakeholders and maintain traceability in the design accuracy tracker.
