• Ability to interpret written specifications and implement them on engineering drawings.
• Ability to read, understand, and create civil engineering drawing packages related to the physical layout of substations, focusing on foundation and structure designs.
• Create civil-structural project scopes, estimates, budgets, and schedules for substation projects.
• Perform calculations for various foundation types, including drilled piers, spread footers, and transformer pads.
• Design and procure transformer oil containment systems.
• Analyze steel (or wood) structures using modeling software.
• Oversee and mentor junior staff, designers, and drafters.
• Collaborate with senior civil engineers to establish best practices, quality assurance, and procedures.
• Coordinate with other disciplines, colleagues, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and clients effectively.
• Visit sites to advise on civil and structural issues and modify designs during construction.
• Manage projects by coordinating staff, tasks, and ensuring efficiency.
• Assist in preparing and reviewing proposals and contracts related to civil-structural work.
• Support permitting activities in design processes.
• Manage budgets and schedules for projects.
• Apply creative and logical thinking to resolve design and construction challenges.
• Experience in field or construction environments verifying engineering drawings.
• Experience in the electric utility industry.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.

Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited institution.

Experience

5-7 years of engineering experience in power delivery within the electrical industry.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

Professional Engineering (PE) license or eligibility to obtain within a year.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply concepts like fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions; perform calculations; and interpret spreadsheets.
