Job summary

ISG is seeking a Substation Physical Designer in Des Moines, IA to develop intelligent 3D substation models using Autodesk Inventor, SDS, and Vault, and to produce construction drawings with GD&T. You will work with engineers to ensure safe, reliable, and constructible designs for transmission and distribution projects.

The role requires 5+ years in substation design, proficiency with Inventor, SDS, Vault, and AutoCAD, and strong collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Autodesk Inventor and electromechanical design.
• Experience supporting utility clients and transmission/distribution substation projects.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, SDS, Autodesk Vault, and AutoCAD.
• Experience creating intelligent 3D models and construction drawings.

Responsibilities

• Develop intelligent 3D substation models with engineers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Create physical design deliverables including layouts, bus plans, sections, elevations, grounding and foundation plans.
• Develop and maintain 3D models using Inventor, SDS, and Vault.
• Coordinate equipment integration and interfaces across electrical and structural disciplines.
• Generate construction, fabrication, and shop drawings with GD&T and standards.
• Perform clearance verification, clash detection, and constructability reviews.
• Support conductor routing, BOM development, and equipment modeling.
• Collaborate on design reviews and compliance with client requirements and standards.
• Review vendor data and integrate equipment into project designs.
• Support bid/construction/as-built packages and revisions in Vault.
