Job summary

ISG in Bloomington, MN is seeking an experienced Substation Physical Designer to lead 3D substation modeling and fabrication drawings using Inventor, SDS, and Vault.

You will collaborate with engineers on transmission and distribution substation projects, ensuring GD&T, standards compliance, and constructible designs across electrical and structural disciplines.

This role fosters an ownership culture with ESOP and competitive compensation in the $75k–$100k range.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Autodesk Inventor and electromechanical design experience.
• Bachelor's or Associate degree in Engineering or Drafting related field.
• Experience supporting utility clients and substation projects.
• Proficiency with Inventor, SDS, Vault and AutoCAD.
• Experience creating intelligent 3D models and construction drawings.
• Strong understanding of substation design principles and standards.
• Familiarity with IEEE/NESC standards and structural detailing.

Responsibilities

• Develop intelligent 3D substation models with engineers.
• Create equipment layouts, bus plans, elevations, and grounding plans.
• Maintain 3D models using Inventor, SDS, and Vault.
• Coordinate equipment integration across electrical and structural disciplines.
• Produce construction, fabrication, and shop drawings with GD&T.
• Perform layout studies, clearance checks, and clash detection.
• Support routing, BOM development, and equipment modeling.
• Participate in design reviews and compliance checks.
• Review vendor data and integrate into designs.
• Support bid, construction, and as-built drawings in Vault.
