Job description

This position is eligible for a $2,500 retention bonus.

Job Summary:

The Providence Center Substance Use Therapist - Department of Corrections will provide individual and group therapy and monitor client progress.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform initial screening, intake and assessment, orientation, crisis intervention, individual and group substance abuse counseling, client education, referral, treatment planning, and consultation for clients receiving treatment from Providence Center within the DOC.
  2. Evaluate psychological, social and physiological signs and symptoms of substance abuse.
  3. Collect pertinent data from appropriate collateral sources in accordance with confidentiality guidelines.
  4. Develop a diagnostic evaluation of the client’s substance use disorder and criminogenic risk factors.
  5. Perform in a calm and professional manner during crisis or emergency situations.
  6. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Center policy and legal requirements.
  7. Serve as a role model to clients on a daily basis in such areas as daily living skills and decision-making.
  8. Identify specific therapeutic interventions appropriate for specific problems.
  9. Monitor client progress.
  10. Complete record-keeping in accordance with DOC and TPC policies/procedures.
  11. Maintain cooperative relationships with Center and DOC staff, clients, community agencies and the public.
  12. Assist with discharge planning as necessary.
  13. Maintain active involvement in professional and lay mental health organizations within the community.
  14. Attend trainings, staff meetings, case presentations, conferences, etc.
  15. Provide feedback to staff on the content of educational programs attended.
  16. Attend mandatory in-service trainings and other trainings required for renewal of licensure.
  17. Serve on appropriate Center or DOC committees.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
  2. LCDP or actively working toward licensure is required.
  3. Must have experience in group facilitation as well as knowledge of criminogenic risk factors.
  4. Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  5. Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients, DOC, and Center employees.
  6. The ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
  7. Valid driver's license and insured auto.
  8. Hours M-F days but may be scheduled for 1 evening a week depending on the facility.
