Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Follow facility policies and state regulations, including WAC 388‑805.
  • Prepare progress reports and notify courts, probation, families, and referral sources as appropriate.

Substance Use Disorder Professional/Trainee

Hourly Rate: $26.22 - $31.50

Position Summary:

Sea Mar's Behavioral Health department is seeking a full‑time Substance Use Disorder Professional or Trainee (SUDP/T) for its Lakewood Behavioral Health Clinic. The individual will provide direct counseling services to patients, including one‑to‑one and group formats, performing assessments, evaluations, and intakes. Services will be offered to adults, youth, and families, focusing on chemical dependency and emerging mental health concerns. Applicants must believe in the disease concept of chemical dependency and be committed to total abstinence as the foundation of recovery.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age‑appropriate care.
  • Screen and evaluate individuals and refer them as needed to other treatment or service programs available in the facility and in the community.
  • Provide individual and group counseling for persons dealing with drug‑related problems and emerging mental health issues.
  • Implement a problem‑oriented records system, submit required Federal, State, and County reports, and collect patient surveys on a monthly basis for the Program Manager.
  • Maintain professional standards and follow the treatment policies and procedures of the facility as well as federal, state, and local regulations, including WAC 388‑805 requirements.
  • Prepare current patient progress reports and completion notices, and provide them to courts, probation departments, families, and referral sources when appropriate.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Maintain a clean record with no history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for at least three (3) years prior to employment, and maintain abstinence while employed.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Communicate effectively before clients and organization staff.
  • Complete a minimum of 40 face‑to‑face encounters per week, or 85 direct service hours per week if encounter count is lower.

Education and/or Experience:

  • For Trainee: complete all required coursework and practicum hours to qualify as a Substance Use Disorder Professional, and hold a current Substance Use Disorder Trainee Registration from the Washington State Department of Health.
  • For Professional: hold an associate’s degree and a certificate qualifying as a Substance Use Disorder Professional, with an active SUDP license from the Washington State Department of Health.
  • At least three years of relevant work experience.
  • Maintain First Aid, CPR, and HIV certification throughout employment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred, but not required.
