Position

Substance Use Disorder Professional II or III – Posting #26897

Position Summary

Full‑time Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) position available at our Puyallup Behavioral Health Clinic. The applicant will work with patients suffering from chemical dependency. Applicants must have no history of alcohol or drug misuse for a period of two years prior to the time of employment.

This role is responsible for providing direct counseling services to patients, delivering one‑to‑one or group therapy, performing assessments, evaluations, and intakes. Services are provided to adults, youth, and families. Applicants should have demonstrated rapport, empathy for, and the ability to communicate with recovery patients. This job description does not indicate that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee; the person in this position will be required to follow other instructions and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. The counselor will understand that services at the organization follow a client‑centered model with emphasis on integrated care.

  • Knowledgeable of a wide variety of therapeutic approaches and the ability to set and maintain therapeutic limits. The agency milieu mandates that the incumbent be flexible, versatile, and skilled in developing creative interventions that modify inappropriate behavior.
  • Must have an understanding of the theory and practice of individual and group treatment of substance use clients to facilitate client self‑examination, expression of feelings, insight development, problem solving, and motivation to develop a chemically free lifestyle.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required.
  • Ability to type fluently, with excellent grammar and spelling.
  • Proficiency in computer programs such as Word and Excel is preferred.
