VitalCore Health Strategies, a leader in correctional health care, seeks a Substance Use Disorder Counselor at Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown, DE for a full-time role. You will work with a multidisciplinary team, conduct crisis stabilization, intakes, and ongoing evaluations, and coordinate care with in-house and community providers.

The position requires a bachelor's degree, CADC or CAADC certification (or progress toward certification within two years), and flexibility to work

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher.
• CADC/CAADC certification or actively pursuing within two years.
• Experience as a clinician/counselor/social worker in public or private agency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide crisis stabilization, complete intakes and ongoing evaluations.
• Collaborate with in-house and community services; participate in monthly behavioral health calls.
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary team, including medical staff and community providers; assist discharge planning.
• Perform risk assessments of inmates and document findings; assist with planning of programs and projects.
• Prepare documentation, records and reports.
• Utilize CBT and Motivational Interviewing; apply clinical skills to prioritize treatment needs.
• Make independent clinical decisions while using supervision as needed.

Overview

The SUD Counselor works as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing a proactive and collaborative approach in serving the patient population. The role involves crisis stabilization, completing intakes and ongoing evaluations, and offering consultation to both in‑house and community services.

Minimum Requirements

• Graduation from a Bachelor's level program or higher
• Employment in a clinician/counselor/social work capacity in a public or private agency or equivalent preferred
• Must have a substance use certification (CADC, CAADC) or be actively working toward obtaining one within two years of hire
• Individuals not certified must be under the direct supervision of a certified clinical supervisor with written documentation of supervision
• Flexibility to work days, evenings, and weekends

Responsibilities

• Provide crisis stabilization, complete intakes and ongoing evaluations, and offer consultation to in‑house and community services
• Participate in monthly behavioral health calls and collaborate with the medical team to determine overall treatment for each individual
• Perform risk assessment of inmates; coordinate care with the interdisciplinary team, including medical staff, community providers, psychiatric hospitals, and corrections; assist with discharge planning
• Assist in planning and implementing the goals and objectives of programs and projects
• Prepare documentation, records, and reports
• Utilize clinical skills such as prioritizing treatment needs, crisis management, brief interventions including CBT and Motivational Interviewing
• Possess excellent and timely documentation skills
• Make independent clinical decisions while utilizing assistance and supervisory intervention as needed
