Job Title: Clinical Counselor

Location: Corona (Queens), NY

Salary: $34.48/hr

Type: Full-time

Schedule: Monday - Friday 10am-6pm

This position is responsible for the provision of clinical counseling services in the areas of chemical dependency and mental health, providing holistic and comprehensive interventions, resources and referrals; services are provided primarily in the community. This person directly reports to the Program Manager.

Core Duties
  • Collects and analyzes assessment data which includes substance use, mental health and co-occurring disorders.
  • Completes intake process and psychosocial assessments, arriving at treatment recommendations and level of care decisions that are appropriate to participant's level of functioning and medical necessity.
  • Develops initial and comprehensive individualized treatment plans based on participant's needs, using participant's words, and that have measurable objectives, within established timelines, based on assessment, psychosocial, participant's assessed stage of change, and in consultation with participant and treatment team as appropriate.
  • Provides individual and group counseling based on treatment plan and participant centered needs.
  • Conducts evidence based practices to the individual needs of the participant (EBPs include, but are not limited to, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Matrix Model, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).
  • Identify participants with urgent mental health conditions (e.g. suicidal, homicidal, psychotic, etc.) and make appropriate referrals to available emergency or psychiatric treatment facilities.
  • Is attuned to the presence of trauma indicators and projects safety and trust in the professional relationship.
  • Have the ability to provide grief and crisis intervention services.
  • Be able to address social needs of participants and utilize area referral sources for needed specialty care, hospitalization, or advance psychiatric assessments and treatments.
  • Encourages family involvement when appropriate.
  • Conducts discharge planning with the client.
  • Acts as liaison with networking/referring agencies, e.g.; Courts, Parole, Probation, ACCESS, etc.
    • Recognizes, responds to, and defuse volatile or dangerous situations as allowable; when in doubt always call for assistance and/or 911.
    • Provide documentation of counseling sessions, assessments, interventions, and recommendations, including all necessary billing information. Performs job tasks in a manner that does not result in negative audit reviews.

Non-negotiables
  • BS/BA in a human services field and CASAC with 2 years' experience working with applicable populations who have substance abuse/co-occurring disorders; or
  • Associates Degree and CASAC-T and 4 years applicable experience.
  • Must have computer skills.
