Job summary

Amanecer Community Counseling in Los Angeles is seeking a bilingual Substance Use Disorder Counselor to provide integrated behavioral health services, including substance use counseling, case management, and recovery support, within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Certified or Registered Substance Abuse Counselor through a California DHCS-approved certifying agency such as CAADE, CADTP, or CCAPP.
  • Bachelors degree in social work, public health or related field with 1 year experience with serious mental illness and substance use in community settings.
  • Experience providing case management services and conducting individual and group sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide substance use counseling, assessments, case management, recovery planning, crisis support, harm reduction education, and resource navigation.
  • Coordinate care with treatment teams, providers, and community partners to connect clients with recovery, behavioral health, housing, medical, and support services.
  • Maintain timely documentation and ensure compliance with HIPAA, ethical standards, credentialing, and regulatory requirements.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT?

As the Substance Use Disorder Counselor (SUDCounselor), you will provideintegrated behavioral health services to individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) and co-occurring addiction andSubstance Abuse Disorder (SUD). You will get tocollaboratewithin a multidisciplinary team to deliver client-centered, coordinated care, including case management, care coordination, recovery support, and navigation services. To be successful in this role, you will bring acommunity-based approach, providing telehealth and in-person services to meet clients where they are – in the community, office, and/or home.

Client Services & Direct Care: Provide substance use counseling, assessments, case management, recovery planning, crisis support, harm reduction education, and resource navigation for individuals and families.

Care Coordination & Collaboration: Coordinate care with treatment teams, providers, and community partners to connect clients with recovery, behavioral health, housing, medical, and support services.

Compliance, Ethics & Documentation: Maintain timely documentation and ensure compliance with agency policies, HIPAA, ethical standards, credentialing, and regulatory requirements.

Additional Support: Provide bilingual support and translation services when applicable, assist with client transportation as needed, and perform other duties to support program operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Background:

  • Must be a Certified or Registered Substance Abuse Counselor, Substance Use Disorder Counselor, or Addiction Counselor through a California DHCS-approved certifying agency such as CAADE, CADTP, or CCAPP.
  • Bachelors degree in social work, public health or related field with 1 year experience working with serious mental illness and substance use in a community mental and/or behavioral health setting
    • OR High School Diploma/GED or Associates with 2 years’ experience working with serious mental illness and substance use in a community mental and/or behavioral health setting.
  • Experience providing case management services and conducting individual and group sessions in a community mental health setting.
  • This position requires driving on behalf of the company. Candidates must hold a valid driver's license, meet the company's motor vehicle record (MVR) standards, meet the company's insurance eligibility, and comply with all state and federal driving requirements. Ongoing employment is contingent upon maintaining an acceptable driving record.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) required. Those assigned to provide services in Spanish and English must be able to speak, read, write, and understand both languages at a professional level to effectively communicate with Spanish-speaking clients and community partners
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, especially Microsoft teams).
