Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct screening and intake interviews using ASAM criteria.
  • Conduct confidential, gender-responsive assessments to determine level of care.
  • Provide individual and group counseling for alcohol and drug dependency.
  • Deliver psychoeducational sessions on addiction, relapse prevention, and coping skills.
  • Coordinate with referral sources, family and other treatment providers.
  • Perform crisis intervention and monitor client progress and treatment plans.

Job description

Job title: SUD Counselor: Certified/Registered

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, The Alcohol and Drug Counselor/Registered AOD Counselor will perform duties and responsibilities outlined below, as well as other duties as assigned. The Alcohol and Drug Counselor works in collaboration with other multi-disciplinary members of the treatment team to build a trusting and productive relationship with the consumer, collaterals, and/or family members, to provide the support and resources needed to achieve identified treatment goals and improve quality of life.

Position Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Two years’ experience providing direct services in the mental health and/or substance abuse field in the capacity of counselor, case manager, or equivalent position.
  • Must have proof of High School Diploma or Equivalent;MUST BE Certified or Registeredby CCAPP, CADPT or other agency currently authorized by the State of California Alcohol and Drug Programs to certify Drug and Alcohol Counselor per State Regulations. If registered, must provide documentation of enrollment and/or attendance in addiction studies courses.
  • Must be trained in the ASAM Module I and ASAM Module II
  • Possession of valid Class C or higher driver’s license and insurability by the agency insurance carrier(s). An acceptable alternate means of transportation necessary to the completion of one’s duties may be considered.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Must be free of alcohol and/or other drugs. If recovering alcoholic or drug abuser, a reasonable amount of current sobriety will be required. Determination to be made by Executive Director.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Communicates with others in the office environment. The employee frequently moves about inside the office and access files, cabinets, and other office machinery.
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key Tasks
  • Conduct screening and intake interviews to determine the need for substance abuse treatment services utilizing the ASAM criteria.
  • Conduct confidential, quality assessments that are gender-responsive and trauma-informed, utilizing the ASAM criteria to determine the appropriate level of care; assessments may be conducted in person or via telehealth.
  • Must have knowledge and have ability to adapt the 12 core functions in treatment.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions related to overcoming alcohol and drug dependency utilizing selected program curriculum.
  • Conduct psychoeducational sessions on a variety topics and subjects related to substance abuse education, addiction, relapse prevention techniques, and other skills and strategies to assist with achieving and maintaining sobriety.
  • Provide consultation to referral sources, family members, and others to help support clients in their recovery, and to support coordination of services.
  • Performs crisis intervention services as necessary.
  • Monitors condition of client to evaluate progress of treatment and adapts treatment as needed.
  • Develops and maintains supportive relationships with clients through services delivery face-to-face contacts, telephone contacts, and telehealth, during individual and group sessions.
  • Administers and monitors the appropriate drug and alcohol use testing of each client.
  • Monitors client’s attendance and participation in treatment and support group meetings.
  • Serves as liaison between the Courts, CPS, Treatment Providers and other authorized parties.
  • Participate in intra/inter agency conferences and/or consultations with referral sources, and other treatment team members regarding overall service delivery and other concerns/issues
  • Facilitates the navigation of systems related to medi-cal, medical, housing, social welfare, educational, to address the individual needs of clients, and assist in improving access.
  • Complete documentation in the medical record for all direct service activities claimed.
  • Participates in quality assurance and continuous quality improvement.
  • Provide community outreach and education workshops on the impact of substance abuse treatment and services offered.
  • Other duties as designated by supervisor, manager and/or program head.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $29.55 per hour

Expected hours: 40.00 Hours per week; 80 Hours bi-weekly
