Job summary

Bay Area Community Health in Fremont, CA is seeking a full-time Substance Use Disorder Counselor to support clients on recovery journeys. You will provide individual, family, and group counseling within a multidisciplinary team and ensure alignment with clinical policies.

The role requires CADC I/II/III or progress toward CADC with relevant experience; a CAAC or equivalent is also required. Travel locally may be needed, and a comprehensive benefits package is offered.

SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER COUNSELOR: YOUR ROLE

Working under the SUDMAT manager, you'll make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families working towards recovery and healing. You will provide compassionate counseling services to support the behavioral, emotional, cognitive, spiritual, and social development of our clients, working closely with our dedicated treatment team to help clients meet goals while complying with clinical policies and accreditation guidelines. Your scope includes individual, family, and group therapeutic sessions, and you'll coordinate with referrals or outpatient providers when appropriate.

Through thorough documentation, treatment planning, and progress monitoring, you'll help clients stay engaged in their recovery goals. You'll participate in utilization reviews, help develop program-specific curriculum and literature, conduct level-of-care assessments, support aftercare planning, and collect data to help drive positive client outcomes. The Substance Use Disorder Counselor contributes to a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment, providing crisis intervention services and connecting clients with community resources. You'll collaborate with other mental health professionals and learn about outside support programs (12-Step programs, Refuge, SMART, etc.) to help clients receive the robust counseling services they deserve!

SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER COUNSELOR QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree with a CADC I/II/III or current pursuit of a CADC with 1+ years of qualifying clinical experience
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) with a CAAC
  • Experience or familiarity with treating dual-diagnosis clients
  • Ability to independently complete quality work and make sound decisions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Leadership skills and strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with teams, training members, and evaluating/improving performance
  • Customer service-focused mindset and the ability to respectfully work with a diverse population, including active substance users, homeless individuals, members of the LGBT community, individuals with HIV+, law enforcement officials, and other entities
  • Time management skills for coordinating multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency with computers, internet programs, and Microsoft 365 applications
  • Analytical problem-solving skills for gathering data, researching information, and preparing accurate reports
  • Ability to participate in short- and long-term planning, development, implementation, and maintenance initiatives
  • Current, valid driver's license and personal vehicle insurance under your name
  • Ability to travel locally and occasionally travel overnight for events
