Job summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) seeks a dedicated counselor at the J.W. Hamilton Pre-Release Unit in Bryan, Texas. The role involves planning and delivering counseling services, evaluating offenders, and guiding treatment plans within established program standards.

You will work full-time with an emphasis on recovery, compliance, and data reporting, earning $24 per hour with a comprehensive benefits package, including retirement plan and paid leave.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Two (2) years full‑time, wage‑earning experience in substance abuse treatment or education.
  • Current valid license as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) or certification as a Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP) or equivalent.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record, unless waived.
  • Must complete annual background checks and in‑service training requirements.
  • Must maintain a valid license or certification for continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning chemical dependency counseling programs and coordinates delivery of counseling to offenders with histories of substance use or addiction.
  • Provides comprehensive evaluation using validated tools to assess recovery needs and re‑offense risk.
  • Participates in Individual Treatment Plans based on assessment findings and clinical interviews.
  • Provides counseling and recovery skills training; supports offender orientation and group sessions.
  • Maintains offender records and compiles data and reports as required.
  • Develops Individual Progress Summaries and submits to Parole Division for case summaries.
  • Supervises others and assists in training staff on program methods and procedures.
