Job summary

Discovery Transitions Outpatient is seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor to counsel individuals and groups, develop treatment plans, and coordinate with mental health professionals.

You will conduct orientations, review progress, assess dependencies, and plan aftercare, applying evidence-based practices and client-centered support.

This full-time role requires California certification and at least two years in addiction treatment, with a compassionate approach to recovery.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in the field of alcohol and drug treatment.
• Must have completed a certificate program specializing in addiction studies.
• Must be certified with the State of California counselor certifying organization.
• If recovering from substance abuse, candidate must have two years of continuous sobriety and knowledge of self-help resources.

Responsibilities

• Complete and maintain accurate records regarding patients' histories and progress.
• Counsel clients individually or in group sessions to aid recovery.
• Develop client treatment plans based on research and histories.
• Conduct program orientation sessions.
• Participate in case conferences or staff meetings.
• Coordinate counseling with mental health professionals.
• Review progress against treatment goals.
• Interview clients and determine suitability for programs.
• Plan follow-up or aftercare for discharged clients.
• Assess degree of drug dependency via urine analysis.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and Program Director.
