Job summary

DeCoach Recovery is seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor Assistant in Fairborn, OH to support clients facing substance use and co-occurring disorders. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, and deliver evidence-based care in a full-time role.

Responsibilities include conducting assessments, leading group sessions, maintaining records, and contributing to supervision and training initiatives.

Qualifications

• Current Ohio CDCA, LCDC II/III, LICDC, or higher-level credential.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse clients.
• Collaborative approach with professionals from different disciplines.
• Initiative and independence with good judgement to seek guidance when needed.
• Strong organizational skills to manage a caseload and meet deadlines.
• Calm, professional demeanor in a fast-paced setting.

The Role

We are growing our clinical team in Fairborn, and looking for a Substance Abuse Counselor or Counselor Assistant who wants to do meaningful, hands-on work. You will support clients facing substance use and co-occurring behavioral health challenges, helping them identify barriers, build on their strengths, and take practical steps forward. You will work alongside a team that shares cases, shares ideas, and invests in each other’s development. Whether you are an established counselor or early in your credentialed career, there is a place for you here.

What You’ll Do

• Complete client assessments and create individualized treatment plans using evidence-based, solution-focused approaches
• Run Group Counseling Sessions
• Work closely with a multidisciplinary care team to keep treatment coordinated and comprehensive
• Support clients in crisis and connect them with the right resources to keep them safe
• Keep thorough, timely clinical records, including progress notes and treatment plans, that meet professional and agency standards
• Contribute to team meetings, case consultations, and clinical supervision
• Deliver respectful, culturally competent care to people from all backgrounds, and speak up for their needs in our organization and the community
• Keep growing through training and current research in addiction and mental health counseling

What You Bring

Required

• Current Ohio CDCA, LCDC II/III, LICDC, or higher-level credential
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to build trust with clients from diverse backgrounds
• A collaborative approach and comfort working with professionals from different disciplines
• Initiative and independence, along with the judgment to seek guidance when you need it
• Strong organization skills for managing a caseload and meeting documentation deadlines
• Composure and professionalism in a fast-paced setting where priorities can change

Preferred

• Experience in an inpatient, residential, or outpatient treatment setting
