Job summary

Amity Foundation, an internationally acclaimed Teaching and Therapeutic Community, seeks compassionate counselors to join our outpatient program in Tucson, Arizona. You will provide group and individual sessions and support rehabilitation services.

You will work under supervision with a certified behavioral health professional, contribute to treatment planning, record-keeping, and community outreach, and participate in ongoing training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a behavioral health field with at least one year of experience in a substance abuse or behavioral health facility.
  • Or a high school diploma/GED with a total of two years of related behavioral health work experience.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic community processes and small-group dynamics.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and participates in group, individual, and therapeutic processes under supervision of a certified behavioral health professional.
  • Observes, records, evaluates changes in appearance, behavior, and demeanor; maintains sensitive student records and emergencies.
  • Prepares reporting and documentation as required by Amity and contract compliance; protects student health and confidentiality of records.
  • Attending workshops, meetings, and training as requested by supervisor.
  • May serve as Community Advocate role in addition to job as requested by community leadership.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

The Counselor (Demonstrator) responsible for providing group, individual sessions, and related rehabilitative treatment services to substance abuse students in an outpatient setting. Provides direct services and related rehabilitative treatment services.

  • Leads and participates in group, individual, and therapeutic processes under the supervision of a certified behavioral health professional. Participates significantly with students in determining short and long-range goals and treatment plans
  • Observes, records, evaluates changes in appearance, behavior, and demeanor of the student, while maintaining accurate and timely student records of sensitive nature. Evaluates emergencies and takes appropriate action
  • Prepares reporting and documentation as required by Amity and contract compliance. Protects student's health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of student records.
  • Attending workshops, meetings, and training as requested by supervisor.
  • May serve as Community Advocate role in addition to job as requested by community leadership.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Required:
  • Bachelors' degree in a behavioral health field and one-year experience in a Substance abuse or behavioral health treatment facility; OR High School diploma or equivalent G.E.D., and a combination of Behavioral health education work experience totaling a minimum of two years; OR Knowledge of therapeutic community processes, methods, and design, including small-group dynamics.
Preferred:
  • Experience with the fundamentals of the Therapeutic Teaching Community.
  • Understand of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse.
Certifications or Licenses:
Required:
  • Valid ArizonaDPS Fingerprint Clearance card.
  • Current valid CPR and First Aid certification.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) & ESR (Emergency Service Response) certification.
  • Tuberculosis test from health professional.
Skills/Abilities:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Electronic Medical Record, or similar software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of human emotions with a high level of empathy.
  • Ability to exercise an amount of empathy and understand the importance of role-reversal.
  • Demonstrates skill in patience, active listening, and interest in diverse life stories.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with a genuine enthusiasm for helping people.
