Clarvida in New Orleans, LA, seeks a Substance Abuse Specialist to join the ACT Team, assisting adults with severe mental illness and substance use challenges. You will deliver integrated, recovery‑oriented services in the community, conduct assessments, provide counseling, coordinate care, and connect clients with resources per individualized treatment plans.

This role includes rotating on-call shifts and PTO.

Qualifications

• Active Louisiana licensure as LPC/LCSW/LPC-S/LAC/LAC-S/LMSW/PLPC/CIT
• Minimum 2 years of professional experience with individuals with serious mental illness
• Experience working with substance use disorders preferred
• Valid State Driver’s License in good standing

Responsibilities

About the Role

Clarvida is seeking a Substance Abuse Specialist to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team, supporting adults with severe mental illness who are also experiencing substance use challenges. In this role, you will provide integrated, recovery-oriented substance use services while working as part of a multidisciplinary ACT team.

ACT services are delivered directly in the community—client homes, places of employment, and other local settings—to support stability, recovery, and long-term independence. You will conduct assessments, provide counseling, coordinate care, and connect clients with community resources aligned with individualized treatment plan goals.

This position participates in a rotating on-call schedule (one week every 6–8 weeks). One (1) day of PTO is earned for each on-call rotation, regardless of call volume, to support work–life balance.

What Is the ACT Program?

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is one of the most established and widely researched evidence-based practices for adults with severe mental illness. ACT provides comprehensive, person-centered services—including housing support, recovery services, vocational assistance, nursing, psychiatric care, and therapy—directly in the community. The goal is to help clients transition to lower levels of care or increased independence while improving overall quality of life.

Requirements

• Active Louisiana licensure in one of the following:
• LPC
• LCSW
• LPC-S
• LAC / LAC-S
• LMSW
• PLPC
• -CIT
• Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience providing services to individuals with serious mental illness
• Experience working with substance use disorders (personal recovery or professional experience preferred)
• Valid State Driver’s License in good standing
