Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Substance Abuse Counsellor to support clients in Upington, Northern Cape. The role provides therapeutic support, develops individualized treatment plans, and facilitates group and individual counselling within a multidisciplinary team to promote recovery.

Requirements include a relevant degree or diploma in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling, professional registration as a substance abuse counsellor, at least 3 years of experience, strong knowledge of

Qualifications

• Requires relevant degree or diploma in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling.
• Professional certification/registration as a substance abuse counsellor.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in addiction counselling or related therapy.
• Knowledge of addiction theory, treatment modalities and recovery principles.
• Excellent counselling, active listening and empathy skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments of substance abuse patterns and related issues.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans with therapeutic goals.
• Provide individual and group counselling to clients.
• Facilitate psychoeducational sessions on addiction, recovery and relapse prevention.
• Offer crisis intervention and support during acute distress.
• Collaborate with medical, social work and other healthcare professionals.
