Job summary

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Subsistence, invites applications for a Subsistence Resource Specialist 1/2 to support Northern Region subsistence research with emphasis on the Arctic and northwest Alaska.

This permanent flex 1/2 role involves planning, implementing, and reporting on human dimensions of subsistence and regulation, including fieldwork in remote communities and comprehensive harvest surveys with documentation of traditional knowledge.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in anthropology, sociology, geography or a closely related field.
• Frequent travel may be required.
• Experience collecting data using established social science methods and preparing analyses.
• Experience writing research proposals and technical reports.

Responsibilities

• Assist with development, planning, implementation, and reporting on human dimensions of subsistence activities and regulation.
• Conduct fieldwork in remote communities on research topics including comprehensive subsistence harvest surveying and documentation of traditional knowledge.
• Coordinate with Program Managers and other Subsistence Resource Specialists to ensure timely completion of priority tasks.
• Assist with researching and preparing materials for regulatory review and grant writing.
