Job summary

The North Slope Borough Department of Wildlife Management in Alaska seeks a Wildlife Biologist to design and conduct field research and monitoring studies of wildlife and habitats on Alaska's North Slope. You will analyze data and write reports to support subsistence management and sustainability.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Borough and Wildlife Management Department policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of wildlife management and Arctic resources management.
• Knowledge of Arctic wildlife, habitats, harvesting techniques, environmental impact issues, and geography of the North Slope.
• Skill in data collection and analysis, report preparation, and making appropriate recommendations.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with coworkers, residents and agencies.
• Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of standard software.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement Department of Wildlife Management research programs on bowhead whale census, caribou census, fish and birds studies, and animal migration patterns.
• Design and implement surveys to document wildlife resources and subsistence harvest effects.
• Analyze and interpret survey and field data.
• Communicate research data to NSB personnel, wildlife community and the public as appropriate.
• Review and evaluate technical documents and proposals; prepare grant applications as required.
• Coordinate staff technicians and visiting scientists; assign tasks and projects.
• Represent the Borough in meetings with Federal, International, state and local wildlife organizations.
