Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a 1st Class Outside Machinist for naval shipyard work in Virginia. The role centers on overhaul, repair and maintenance of pumps, motors, valves and related equipment, supporting submarine systems in a demanding marine environment.

A current Secret clearance (or within 24 months) and journeyman‑level experience in a marine/shipyard setting are required, with specific hands‑on work on submarine torpedo tubes or sail systems preferred.

Qualifications

• Active Secret clearance or clearance within the last 24 months.
• Journeyman-level outside machinist in a marine/shipyard environment.
• Hands-on experience with submarine torpedo tubes or sail systems.
• Proficient in overhauling pumps, motors, valves and related equipment.
• Experience with marine seawater, hydraulic and diesel systems.
• Ability to read and work from technical drawings and procedures.
• Ability to install and align foundations and major machinery components.
• Ability to use personal tools for outside machinist work.

Responsibilities

• Overhaul, repair and maintain pumps, motors, valves and auxiliary marine equipment.
• Inspect and repair maritime seawater, hydraulic and diesel systems.
• Repair propulsion shafts, shaft couplings and vibration reducers.
• Remove, inspect and repair submarine fairwater, stern plane and steering systems.
• Work on submarine sail components including periscopes, masts and antennas.
• Repair ship weapons and ordnance systems such as torpedo tubes and launchers.
• Install foundations to maintain alignment and structural integrity of machinery.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues on marine/submarine systems.
• Adhere to shipyard safety, security and quality procedures.
