Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. Newport News Shipbuilding seeks a seasoned design engineer to create and modify components for submarine machinery, electrical and piping spaces using CAD/CAM tools (CAD, CAM, NX, CATIA).

You will gather data, perform calculations, and draft proposals while coordinating with engineering, manufacturing, and planning teams. The successful candidate should hold an Associate's Degree with 6+ years of relevant experience, plus ability to travel and conduct

Qualifications

Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience.
Equivalent: High School/GED + 2 years related experience.
Equivalent: High School/GED + 4 years related experience.
Experience with design, research, project management and problem solving related to submarine machinery, electrical and piping spaces.

Responsibilities

Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material and planning groups to ensure ease of manufacture and correct specifications.
Support configuration management for submarine products, review Engineering Reports (ERs) and assist junior personnel.
