Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a skilled CAD designer/drafter for on-site work supporting U.S. Navy submarine programs.

You will create 3D solid models in SolidWorks, develop 2D installation drawings, and manage large assemblies while applying ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards. The role requires collaboration with engineers, mentoring junior designers, and ensuring materials and documents meet government specifications.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain/maintain DoW Secret Clearance.
• U.S. citizenship is required for clearance.
• High school Diploma or GED with CAD cert or A.S./B.S. in drafting/CAD or engineering.
• Physically able to conduct ship checks in confined submarine spaces.
• 3–4 years CAD drafting experience in SolidWorks and 3D modeling.
• SolidWorks experience is required; AutoCAD acceptable.
• MS Word/Excel/Access/PowerPoint proficiency; Adobe PDF tools.
• Clear communication with customers; mentor to junior designers.

Responsibilities

• Conduct ship checks on SSN/SSBN subclass submarines on site.
• Research submarine drawings using ATIS system.
• Create 3D solid models to optimize designs in SolidWorks.
• Manage large assemblies in SolidWorks.
• Develop 2D installation and arrangement drawings per specs.
• Apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 guidance.
• Develop lists of material (LOM) as required.
• Interpret GFI to meet design requirements.
• Supervise/aid/mentor Designer/Drafter I coworkers.
