Overview

Electric Boat is the premier designer and builder of nuclear‑powered submarines for the U.S. Navy, experiencing unprecedented growth. This position is within the Lagging Department as we continue to build the most advanced submarines.

As an installer, you will receive on‑the‑job training to excel as a Submarine Insulation Installer.

Responsibilities
  • Work with fiberglass, calcium silicate, PVC, nitrile rubber, barium sulfate, and standard lagging coverings to provide anti‑sweat, personnel protection, and thermal and acoustic insulation treatments on piping systems and shipboard components as required by plan.
  • Use chicken wire and high‑temperature cement to provide hard coverings on some insulation materials and sew various coverings on other treatments.
  • Interpret drawings and insulation schedules as necessary to complete assigned work.
  • Work conditions may include entry into restricted and confined spaces.
  • Interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and perform basic layout functions.
  • Be willing to work road assignments and work in radiological areas of the boat.
  • Be able to work all shifts.
  • Be available to work overtime as required.
  • Possess your own basic hand tools.
  • Obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense SECRET clearance.
