Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilledSubject Matter Expert (SME) / Master Gunnerto provide critical technical and analytical support for the Army's Live Fire Training Investment Strategy (LFTIS) and Sustainable Range Program (SRP). The SME will bridge the gap between military training requirements and engineering solutions, ensuring that range designs, reconfigurations, and targetry systems are compliant with TC 25-8 standards and optimize Soldier readiness.

The ideal candidate is a retired or former Army Master Gunner with extensive experience in gunnery qualifications, range operations, and training management. This role requires the ability to conduct independent technical assessments, evaluate training facility designs, and provide data-driven recommendations to senior command.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Analysis & Strategy:Conduct comprehensive Live Fire Training Investment Strategy (LFTIS) analysis for WHC and USAR commands. Perform detailed on-site range assessments to evaluate facility condition, capacity, and compliance with TC 25-8. Provide expertise in universal gunnery methodologies, vehicle-mounted weapons systems, and training program design.
  • Range & Targetry Design:Advise on the layout, emplacement, and verification of target systems (SITs, SATs, MATs). Assist in the design and reconfiguration of Multi-Purpose Range Complexes (MPRCs) and Battle Positions (BPs) to ensure they meet valid training requirements. Evaluate military construction designs and review range layouts for doctrinal and operational accuracy.
  • Decision Support & Reporting:Compile objective data into technical reports that provide the command with the analytical depth required to build justified resource requests. Support the Program Management Plan (PMP) and identify capability deltas, infrastructure degradation, and obsolescence risks. Attend workgroups and conferences as a technical advisor and capture key points for the Government.
Required Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Master Gunner qualification with Additional Skill Identifier (ASI) A8/K8/J3. Previous assignments as a Master Gunner at Brigade (BDE) operations level or higher is mandatory. Direct support of Huntsville (MCX) Design or service as an A/E Design Team Functional Support on a Training Facility MILCON project within the last two years is highly preferred. Additional certifications such as Range Facility Management Support System (RFMSS) Functional Administrator or Range Officers Professional Development (ROPD) training are a plus. Candidates must be U.S. Citizens and able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC), passing a NACI background investigation. Expert knowledge of Army Regulations (AR 350-19, AR 350-52), Training Circulars (TC 25-8, TC 25-1), and Range Design Guides is essential.

Work Conditions

This role operates on a standard 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Significant travel is required to installations such as Ft. Campbell, KY and Ft. Hunter-Liggett, CA. Work is conducted in both office environments (planning and analysis) and field environments (range assessments).
