Primary Service Area: Santa Fe

Employment Term: Full-time; 10 months; non-exempt

Salary/Wage Range: Depends on qualifications and experience

Position Type: Part-Time

Summary

This is an exciting position that calls on the nurse to tap into all areas of their training. As a residential school the scope of the nurse’s involvement with the student goes well beyond what is experienced by non-residential school nurses. The job requires great flexibility, patience and a willingness to work with students and parents from a wide variety of social and cultural backgrounds. It is anticipated and expected that all functions of this position will be performed in a positive and receptive manner, while helping to advance the mission and vision of New Mexico School for the Deaf.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Direct care of NMSD students, including: medically fragile students with multiple disabilities, tube feedings, assisting with personal hygiene and ADLs, medication administration, managing emergent illness and injury, managing injuries and first aid, knowledge of local resources, staff and student education.
  • Timely contact with parents/guardians.
  • Maintaining a timely and complete electronic medical record.
  • Timely communication between the various departments on campus about the changing needs of NMSD students.

Education and /or Experience

Minimum requirement is a high school diploma and a New Mexico Board of Nursing license to practice as a Registered Nurse, and at least 5 years’ experience in a clinic or school health setting.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration
  • New Mexico Board of Nursing License to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Expected to obtain, at their own expense, within one year a PED (Public Education Department) school nurse certification.
  • Current BLS certification.
