Summary of the position:

To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, work, play and develop.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Ability to plan and organize.
• Skills in human relations.
• Demonstrates aptitude for cleaning, minor mechanical repair and good habits.
• Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

1. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
2. Performs painting duties as required.
3. Shovels, plows, and salts walk, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate.
4. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
5. Raises the United States flag at or before 8:00 A.M. each school day, and lower it at or after 3:30 P.M. (This is determined by the Principal)
6. Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture.
7. Cleans corridors after school each day, and during the day when conditions require it.
8. Scrubs, wet mops, and disinfect restroom floors daily, and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
9. Washes all windows on both the inside and the outside at least twice each year, and more frequently if necessary.
10. Keeps the grounds free from rubbish.
11. Performs yard-keeping chores such as grass cutting and tree trimming to maintain a safe and attractive school environment.
12. Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in good repair.
13. Cleans all chalkboards at least once a week.
14. Makes minor building repairs as capable.
15. Reports major repairs needed promptly to the Principal.
16. Maintains mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis.
17. Reports damage to school property immediately.
18. Remains on school premises during school hours and during authorized non-school hours when required.
19. Handles opening and closing of the building, ensuring all doors and windows are secured and lights are turned off.
20. Keeps an inventory of supplies and requisitions replacements as needed.
21. Conducts ongoing maintenance, upkeep, and repairs.
22. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required.
23. Follows local laws for storage and disposal of waste, paints, fuels, etc.
24. Responsible for the safe condition of the swimming pool, including water tests and refilling.
25. Inspects electrical installations periodically for safety.
26. Performs emergency clean-ups as needed.
27. Sweeps, mops, washes, and vacuums floors.
28. Assists in monitoring student discipline as appropriate.
29. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
