Position Overview

Title: SUBSTITUTE Bus Driver
Department: Transportation
Immediate Supervisor: Transportation Director
Location: Transportation

Contract Details

Duration: 177 contract days (176 days per year, 6‑8 hours per day).
Non‑CDL: $13.86 per hour.
CDL: $16.24 per hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Drive a school bus maintaining a schedule safely.
  2. Interact with children, parents, teachers and other employees.
  3. Maintain records.
  4. Inspect the school bus and notify proper authority in case of mechanical failure.
  5. Maintain student discipline.
  6. Keep assigned bus clean.
  7. Report all accidents and complete required reports.
  8. Perform simple data recording/record keeping operations requiring logging, filing or posting single entry items either manually or by computer.
  9. Use basic addition and subtraction in performance of the job.
  10. Read and interpret routine written or printed materials such as basic blueprints, charts, diagrams, maps or instruction material.
  11. Establish and/or maintain an existing filing system.
  12. Follow generally standardized operating policies and procedures.
  13. Other duties may be assigned.
Evaluation

The Transportation Director will evaluate performance in accordance with the Board's policies, state law, and the negotiated agreement with the Support Employees of Edmond (SEE).

Supervisory Responsibilities

Students on the bus.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Acceptable Annual Motor Vehicle Record.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Current Bus Driver’s Certificate.
  • Class B CDL with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsement.
Skill Requirements
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to plan budgets, use relevant mathematical skills, maintain accurate records, and support documentation for projects under supervision.
  • Reasoning Skills: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form while dealing with multiple variables.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Proficiency with computers and related programs; apply knowledge of current research; establish and maintain effective working relationships; organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; perform duties with awareness of District requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Must have skills to drive a school bus and basic communication skills for understanding and responding to job instructions.
Physical Demands

Employees are regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. They may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Acceptable annual physical examination is required.

Work Environment

Employees spend time both inside and outside the school bus.
