Job summary

Emerald Design Works in Chicago is seeking a seasoned Studio Director to lead the Chicago studio and its upscale multifamily and office interiors portfolio. Reporting to the VP of Interior Design, you’ll be responsible for the studio’s P&L and for the quality, profitability and client experience of every project it delivers.

This is a true ownership role. You’ll build and lead our River North, Chicago studio: managing our studio leads, senior and junior designers, while collaborating closely

Qualifications

• 10–15 years of progressive experience in commercial interior design with a track record of successful project delivery.
• Proven leadership experience running a studio, team or practice, including managing managers.
• Bachelor’s degree in interior design, architecture or related field; NCIDQ is a plus.
• Experience in upscale and luxury multifamily and office interiors with amenity spaces and workplace environments.
• Established relationships with developers, owners and design partners in Chicago.
• Entrepreneurial, business-minded approach to creating opportunities for the studio.
• Financial acumen and experience delivering profitability against a budget or P&L.
• Strong understanding of FF&E specification, procurement, vendor negotiation and installation.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Chicago studio’s P&L: revenue, margin, utilization and profitability against plan.
• Build and lead the Chicago team, including hiring and development.
• Oversee project delivery from concept through installation and closeout.
• Maintain design quality and standards with a culture of excellence.
• Oversee procurement, bidding, budgeting and vendor negotiation.
• Create SOPs and repeatable processes to reduce errors.
• Manage relationships with developers, owners and design partners in Chicago.
• Grow the studio’s pipeline through networking and collaboration with Business Development.
