Job summary

North Central Missouri College in Savannah, MO is seeking part-time student tutors to support academic skill development in the Tutoring Center and online. You will assess student needs, set goals for sessions, and provide one-to-one or small-group tutoring to help students improve study habits and performance.

As a tutor, you will also serve as a referral resource, maintain records, and schedule online tutoring as requested, reporting to the Resource Center Coordinator.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Attend tutor training workshops.
  • Conduct small-group and/or one-to-one tutoring.
  • Help students develop positive study habits and study skills.
  • Help students prepare for quizzes and tests.
  • Explain concepts and ask questions that promote independent thinking.
  • Encourage students to complete homework assignments.
  • Schedule and conduct online tutoring when requested.
  • Maintain contact with the Tutoring Center Coordinator.
  • Provide courteous service to students and NCMC faculty/staff.
  • Perform other record-keeping and resource maintenance duties.

Essential Functions: Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to
  • Attend tutor training workshops
  • Conduct small-group and/or one-to-one tutoring
  • Help students develop positive study habits and study skills
  • Help students with projects and to prepare for quizzes and tests
  • Explain concepts and ask questions that encourage students to think and work independently
  • Encourage students to complete homework assignments
  • Be at work on time as scheduled
  • Maintain contact with the Tutoring Center Coordinator
  • Exhibit excellent customer service skills toward all students and NCMC faculty/staff
  • Perform other record-keeping and resource maintenance duties
  • Schedule and conduct online tutoring when requested
Requirements

Qualifications:

Skills: Students must have a strong knowledge of the subject they are tutoring. Strong verbal and written communication. Ability to explain concepts clearly. Active listening and approachable demeanor. Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of students.

Physical Demands: Moving about between buildings on the NCMC campus, ascending and descending stairs, reaching, pulling, and pushing when filing, able to do repetitive tasks, remain stationary at a desk for extended periods of time.

Environmental Demands: Fluctuations while walking on tile and carpeted floors in a heated and air conditioned environment.
